Larry Sherry, who died of cancer on Dec. 17, 2006, was a star relief pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers who was overshadowed by the Dodgers’ “other” Jewish pitching star – Sandy Koufax – but who formed half of the one of the first all-Jewish batteries (pitcher-catcher tandems) in Major League Baseball with his brother, Norm.
Sherry was a Los Angeles native who overcame birth defects and several operations on his feet to become a multiple-sport star in high school. (more…)

Pauline Weinstein Ledeen, 97, who visited Jewish inmates for decades, celebrated Pesach with them and volunteered for decades with prisoners and the mentally ill, died Nov. 27, 2007.
Ledeen was known as “Bubbe Teresa,” according to a Los Angeles Times obituary. (more…)

Paul Wasserman is the publicist for the Rolling Stones. That doesn’t mean — as it would with almost any other client in the world — that it’s Paul Wasserman’s job to get publicity for the Rolling Stones. Everybody wants to write about the Rolling Stones, to do a feature interview with a band member, to “get inside” with a portable TV camera and a handful of radio mikes.
